-Hi! I'm Julia! My job is to talk about saints. It's the best job in the world. Our first saint is St. Edith Stein. She was born on October 12, 1891 in Breslau, Germany. She was born into a Jewish family. She wanted to become a philosopher and she was very smart. But something was missing from her life, and she knew it, too. So she began searching for the truth. In order to find the truth, she stayed up all night reading St. Teresa of Avila's autobiography. In the morning, she shut the book and decided that the Catholic faith was the truth. Soon after, she was baptized. She told her mom that she wanted to become a Carmelite nun, and her mother was surprised, but she didn't stop it.
Soon, a bad man named Adolf Hitler took over lots of Europe, and accused the Jewish people for things they didn't do. Nazi officers rounded up Jewish people and took them to Concentration Camps where they would be killed. That is how St. Edith Stein died along with the 6 million European Jews that were murdered by the Nazis. She was a brave and courageous young woman. She died on August 9, 1942.
