Hi! It's Katie! And today, we are going to be talking about the first commandment, which is..."I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD. YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BESIDES ME."

God meant that we shouldn't worship anything. But not just statues. What things do you "worship" in your daily life? Is it that video game that you let get in the way of mowing the lawn? Or that doll that caused you to be late for church? These items can become like gods if they let us sin.
Sometimes, statues are "false gods." When Moses went up on the mountain to get the 10 commandments, he was up there for a long time. Aaron was in charge. Aaron knew that the people were getting impatient, so he told them to bring him their jewelry and he would melt them and make a god for them. When Moses came down from the mountain, he saw the people worshiping the golden calf and he got so angry that he threw down the ten commandments that God had given him. He had to go back and get the 10 commandments from God again.
That is the story of the golden calf.
Now do you see how things can get in the way of God? God is the Lord of heaven and earth! Sometimes, we forget to follow him, or we put our "stuff" before God. But we can easily make up for this in confession. Jesus will take away all our sins there.
